Nothing is sent anywhere at any point, which is why there is no upload progress bar and no waiting in a queue.

Yes. Every page is copied over as it is, so an A4 letter, a US Letter form and a landscape spreadsheet printout each keep their own size and orientation in the merged file. Nothing is scaled to match the first page. If you need them all the same size for printing, use the fit to page option in your print dialog.

No. The merge builds a brand new PDF and copies only the pages into it. The bookmark list and the title or author fields of your original files live outside the pages, so they are not part of what gets copied. The text, images and layout of every page come through unchanged. If the bookmarks matter, keep the originals as well, because the merged file has no way to bring them back.

If any file in the list cannot be opened, the merge stops and shows an error message instead of a download. The usual causes are a password on the file or a file that is damaged. Remove that file with the bin icon next to it, press Start again, and the rest will merge. A locked file needs its password removed first.

Combine PDF Free works on whole files: it puts all of file one, then all of file two, and so on. To mix pages, first use PDF Splitter on this site to pull out the pages you want as separate files. Then bring those pieces here, put them in the order you want with the arrows, and merge them. Both steps copy pages without re-rendering, so quality does not change at either step.

A browser cannot read a single file larger than about 2 GB, so any file over that is stopped before the merge starts with a message telling you so. Below that, there is no limit set by us. All the files are held in your computer's memory while the merge runs, so a very large set of big scans can be slow on a machine with little memory. Closing other tabs gives the browser more room.
