HEIC to JPG

HEIC is Apple's format. It saves space, but many websites, Windows programs and older phones never added support. JPG is understood everywhere.

Yes. The picker accepts both .heic and .heif files. Each converted photo keeps its original name with the ending changed to .jpg, so IMG_1234.heic becomes IMG_1234.jpg. That makes it easy to match a converted file with the original in your photo folder.

If you convert one photo you get a single Download button. If you convert more than one, you get one Download all as zip button, and every JPG comes in a single file called converted-jpg.zip. The zip is not compressed further, because JPG files are already compressed, so it is about the size of the photos added together.

HEIC was designed to store a photo in less space than JPG. Converting it to JPG at a high quality setting, 0.9 on a scale where 1 is the best, usually gives a larger file than the original. That is the cost of a format every device can open. If the size is a problem, run the JPG through the Compress Image tool on this site afterwards.

Each photo is converted on its own, so a problem with one file stays with that file. If one cannot be decoded, it is marked as failed in the list and the others carry on. Only the photos that worked are included in the download. A failure usually means the file is damaged, or it has a .heic name but is not really an HEIC image. Keep the original in that case.

Not one we set. The only hard limit is that a browser cannot read a single file over about 2 GB, and a phone photo is nowhere near that. The real limit is your computer's memory, since every converted JPG is held there until you download it. For a very large album, converting it in a few batches is easier on an older machine, and you can press Clear to empty the list between batches.
